The Gambia Action Party (GAP) has expressed concern over what it described as the African Union’s silence on the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the post-election crisis in Cameroon.

In a press statement signed by the party’s Secretary General and leader, Musa Ousainou Yali Batchilly, GAP said it was “deeply concerned over the continued silence of the African Union (AU) regarding the devastating conflict in Sudan, where thousands of innocent lives are being lost daily.”

“The AU’s inaction in the face of such human suffering is a betrayal of the principles of unity, peace, and solidarity that form the foundation of our continental organization,” the statement continued. “Africa cannot claim progress while our brothers and sisters in Sudan perish in silence. The AU must urgently intervene to bring peace and justice to Sudan.”

Turning to Cameroon, the statement said GAP “condemns the actions of Cameroon’s so-called Independent Electoral Commission, which has shamelessly taken sides with the ruling regime following the post-election crisis.” It added that “such acts undermine democracy and betray the will of the people of Cameroon.”

According to GAP, “free and fair elections are the lifeblood of democracy, and any institution that manipulates the people’s choice has no place in a new Africa that demands accountability and justice.”

The party further stated that it “stands firmly with the people of Sudan and Cameroon in their struggle for peace, freedom, and democratic integrity,” calling on “the African Union, ECOWAS, and the international community to rise beyond political convenience and defend the values of truth, human rights, and justice across the continent.”

The statement concluded, “Africa must not remain silent while her children suffer.”
