From Humble Beginnings to Hat-Trick Hero: Danso’s Rise in the GFF 2nd Division

By Aja Beyai

Abdoulie Danso, a young footballer with a heart full of passion and a spirit that shines brighter than the goals he scores, is making waves in GFF 2nd division league. Danso has quickly become a name whispered with awe and excitement among fans and coaches alike.

His journey began in the dusty fields of New Jushwang, where the joy of the game was his driving force. He dreamt of bigger stages, of wearing the jersey of his idols, Neymar and Sadio Mané, and of one day playing for Barcelona or Arsenal.

Danso’s natural talent for one-on-one play, ball protection, and speed quickly caught the eye of local coaches.

His talent, a potent blend of speed, agility, and an innate ability to find the back of the net, was quickly recognized. He made his debut in the Gambian division league with PSV Wellingara in 2020-2021, winning the league with an impressive 15 goals and 8 assists.

But it was in April 2025 that Danso truly announced his arrival on the national stage. In a span of three games, he scored a staggering eight goals, including back-to-back hat-tricks. “We are still counting the target is to reach 20 goals or more, it’s already 12 goals and 4 assist in my account and I’m hungry for more”.

His performance, a dazzling display of skill and determination, left fans and opponents alike speechless.

“Word can’t express how I feel to be honest, but I will just say Alhamdulillah, I’m really grateful and motivated by it, this is not only about my hard work but God’s plan along the way, and I will give the credit to my coaches and my teammates without there support I cant achieve this,” Danso recalls, his eyes sparkling with the memory of those triumphant moments. “To score so many goals in such a short time, it was like a dream come true.”

The road to success hasn’t been easy. A six-month injury in 2024 tested his resolve, but Danso persevered, returning to the field stronger than ever. “My biggest challenge was 2024 when I had to sit for six months injured without playing football,” he revealed.

His pre-game routine, a blend of faith and focus, includes waking up for Fajr prayer, reciting the Quran, and then dedicating himself to the beautiful game. He pushes his limits with extra training at the gym and home, and finds solace in spending time with his friends.

His grandmother’s wise advice, “celebrate and clap for others, knowing they will celebrate you in return,” echoes in his heart, shaping his sportsmanship.

His coaches instilled in him the importance of teamwork, emphasizing the value of running without the ball and defending as a unit “the most important thing I learned from my coaches is where to run without the ball and how to defend as a team.” He said.

He is a humble and grounded player, always willing to help his teammates and inspire them with his infectious enthusiasm.
