Ensuring the public’s consumption of hygienic bread: The Bakers Union vows to self-regulate the sector.

At a recent elective congress held at QCity in Bijilo, the Secretary General of the National Bakers Union delivered a lengthy speech. He emphasized the union’s efforts to unite ‘Tapalapa’ and ‘Senfurr’bakers under a single union to regulate and standardize the sector.

During the congress, which was attended by 128 delegates from across The Gambia, Mr. Amadou Tijan Jallow was elected as the president of the National Bakers Union unopposed. The 128 delegates unanimously agreed to entrust the new executive with leading the union for the next 3 years.

One of the key responsibilities of the new executive is to build on the progress made by bringing together various bakers under one umbrella, ensuring that bakeries adhere to standards in terms of hygiene, health, and measurement.

As a major contributor to the supply of the second most consumed food product in the country, the union believes that their unity to establish standards and quality within this important sector is essential.
