DLEAG Launches Waves of Arrests Over Prohibited Drugs

Officers of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) have launched waves of arrests in Sibanor and elsewhere in the country over prohibited drugs.

Scores of individuals were nabbed in separate operations for having suspected cannabis sativa, ecstasy, hashish, and other prohibited drugs.

According to DLEAG sources, the arrests were made between the 7th and 8th of November 2025 in various parts of the country.

In the first case, 31-year-old Bubacarr Tamba, a driver and resident of Kaninlai, was arrested on the outskirts of Mayork on 8th November 2025, around 01:40 a.m. He was found with 46 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement papers and packed inside white and blue flour bags. The suspect was riding a black motorcycle with no registration number at the time of his arrest.

Similarly, 30-year-old Dawda Saidy, a welder from Gunjur, was apprehended at Georgina Bar and Restaurant on 7th November 2025, around 10:45 a.m., with 28 pieces of suspected cannabis ruderalis (skunk) and 35 pills of ecstasy hidden in a transparent plastic bag.

In another incident, 40-year-old Sang E. Mendy, a teacher residing in Kassa Kunda Village, was arrested at his home on 7th November 2025, around 1:25 p.m., after DLEAG agents discovered a suspected cannabis plantation growing in the backyard of his residence.

Elsewhere, 67-year-old Borry Barry, a farmer from Darsilameh Seca Village, was taken into custody the same day around 6:20 a.m. after officers found 19 cannabis plants cultivated in his backyard.

At Brikama Misera, 23-year-old Bubacarr Sabally was arrested around 8:08 p.m. with 31 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and 27 pills of ecstasy, concealed in white paper, foil, and multicoloured nylon bags.

22-year-old Amadou Wury Sowe, a resident of Coastal Road, was arrested on 8th November 2025 at 12:10 a.m. with 36 pieces of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), while 24-year-old Karamo Manneh, a driver from Bafuloto, was apprehended the same day at 11:50 a.m. with 57 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.

Also in Bafuloto, 18-year-old Baba Galleh Conteh was arrested around 10:47 a.m. with seven wraps and additional quantities of suspected cannabis sativa, concealed in white paper and multicoloured bags.

All suspects are currently in DLEAG custody as investigations into their respective cases continue.
