Death toll in Jigawa petrol tanker explosion rises to 167

The death toll from last Tuesday’s fuel tanker explosion in Jigawa State has increased to 167.

Emergency responders and health workers have earlier counted 100 bodies from the incident which occurred in Taura local government area of the state on Tuesday night.

67 persons who were injured in the incident are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals within and outside the state.

The state governor, Umar Namadi, confirmed the latest development when his Kano State counterpart, Abba Kakir-Yusuf, paid him a condolence visit at the Government House in Dutse.

He thanked the Kano State government for donating N100 million to the victims of the disaster.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure the injured receive the best care available,” Namadi stated.
