Darboe Slams Barrow for ‘Wasteful Spending’ Over Hakalang Road Inauguration

By :Mahmoud Kongira

United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, has criticised President Adama Barrow’s administration for what he described as wasteful spending and insensitivity to the economic struggles of Gambians.

The UDP leader cited the recent inauguration of the Hakalang Road as an example of wasteful spending and insensitivity to the economic struggles of Gambians.

Speaking at a political rally held in Jambanjelly, Kombo South District, West Coast Region on Saturday, November 8, the Darboe questioned the timing of the event, which took place just days before the President’s planned nationwide tour.

“Next week, the President will embark on a nationwide tour, yet today he travelled with a high-powered delegation to Upper Nuimi, incurring significant costs,” Darboe told supporters. “He could have saved resources by combining the inauguration with his tour rather than spending public funds on today’s trip to Nuimi,” he added.

The UDP leader further accused the Barrow administration of being unsympathetic to the plight of ordinary citizens, particularly women vendors who struggle daily in markets to earn a living.

Darboe also urged Gambians to make what he called “the right decision” in the next election to end their frustrations, while calling on opposition parties to unite in efforts to unseat what he termed a “corrupt and insensitive government” that has failed to prioritise youth empowerment and economic development.
