The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has unveiled plans to begin the nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel starting August 15, 2025 — a move it describes as a strategic overhaul of Nigeria’s fuel distribution system.
In a statement released on Sunday, the company announced that it will deploy 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to serve petrol marketers, station dealers, manufacturers, telecoms operators, aviation companies, and other high-volume fuel consumers across the country.
“Dangote Petroleum Refinery is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant national initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape,” the statement read.
“Effective 15th of August 2025, the refinery will begin the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit and diesel to marketers, petrol dealers, manufacturers, telecoms firms, aviation, and other large users across the country, with free logistics to boost the distribution network.”
The company revealed that the rollout will include a dedicated logistics backbone, supported by over 100 CNG-powered tankers and the establishment of booster stations across Nigeria. This infrastructure, the statement said, is aimed at tackling long-standing supply challenges, lowering transport costs, and improving fuel accessibility in urban and rural areas.
“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the refinery added.

The logistics initiative will also include a credit scheme for bulk buyers purchasing 500,000 litres and above, a measure expected to revive thousands of dormant filling stations and ease inflationary pressure across the supply chain. It is also set to benefit small businesses and align with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda.
Meanwhile, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, hinted at an impending shakeup in the downstream sector. During a recent interview following President Tinubu’s visit to the $20 billion refinery in Lekki, Lagos, Dangote said the development would go beyond just price adjustments.
“There will be an announcement of what I call a major ‘shakedown’ in the entire country soon,” he said. “This is not about price reduction, but the complete overhaul of the downstream sector.”
The announcement comes at a time of heightened tensions in the fuel supply chain, with tanker drivers in Lagos threatening to halt operations over the high cost of the N12,500 E-Call Up system imposed on the Lekki-Epe corridor.
By offering free delivery and sustainable logistics, the Dangote Refinery initiative is expected to significantly ease pressure on the sector and improve fuel flow nationwide when distribution begins in August.
