Court Revokes Bail of Two Accused in D250,000 Fraud Case

By: Mahmoud Kongira

The Brikama Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Magistrate M.S. Dem, on Thursday, October 23, revoked the bail of two accused persons, Muaa Bojang and Abdou Camara, who are charged with obtaining money by false pretence amounting to D250,000. The offence contravenes Section 288 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia, 2009.

Prosecuting officer Sgt. M.J. Sallah informed the court that the accused persons had failed to appear on two separate occasions, resulting in repeated delays in the case.

When asked to explain his absence at the previous hearing, Bojang told the court that he had been unwell and sought medical attention, which prevented him from attending.

However, he failed to produce a medical certificate when requested by the magistrate.

In response, Magistrate Dem revoked Bojang’s bail and issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Camara, who was absent without explanation.

The matter has been adjourned to Thursday, November 13, 2025, for the hearing of the first prosecution witness (PW1).
