Court Refuses Bail For Two Accused of Stealing NAWEC Solar Panels

By: Isatou Sarr

Magistrate K.B. Sambou of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Monday refused to grant bail for two accused persons who are facing theft charges.

Momodou Wurry, a Gambian national, and Kaaba Yankee, a Sierra Leonean, are accused of stealing seven solar panels worth D70,000.00 property of Jambur’s NAWEC Solar Plant in the West Coast Region.

The bail refusal by the Magistrate came after the prosecution strongly opposed bail on the grounds that the accused persons would interfere with prosecution witnesses or jump bail, as there was an ongoing investigation on the matter by a panel with several recovered solar panels as exhibits.

Wurry and Yankee, who both pleaded “not guilty,” were responding to two counts of charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing on 22nd October 2025.

The matter comes up again for hearing on 25th November 2025, when the first prosecution witness is expected to testify.
