Court delays judgement on suit seeking to remove Ganduje as APC chairman

A Federal High Court in Abuja has rescheduled the judgment in a suit seeking the removal of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to September 23, 2024.

The judgment was initially set for today, September 18, but was removed from the court’s cause list.

A court registrar who addressed the matter said, “We have already called the parties on the phone to inform them of the development. The new date is next week, September 23.”

This development has left many wondering about the fate of Ganduje’s chairmanship.

The North Central APC Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga, filed the suit, arguing that Ganduje’s appointment as chairman is unconstitutional since he is not from the North Central geo-political zone.

Their counsel, Benjamin Davou, claimed that the National Executive Committee of the APC breached the party’s constitution by appointing Ganduje, from Kano State in the North West geo-political zone, to replace Sen. Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the North Central geo-political zone.

The plaintiffs alleged that Ganduje’s appointment contravenes Article 31.5(1) f of the APC constitution and exceeds the powers of the NEC. They also argued that Ganduje is illegally occupying the office, not being from the North Central zone.
