The Gambia’s Chief Justice has ordered the current Auditor General, Cherno Amadou Sowe, to join the suit filed by the former Auditor General against the state.

This, according to the Chief Judge, Hassan Jallow, is aimed at streamlining court proceedings.

The case was heard yesterday in chambers by the Chief Justice sitting as a single judge. Counsel Lamin J. Darboe and Jarra Jeng appeared for the plaintiff, while the State was represented by Solicitor General H. Thomasi, alongside private legal counsel Ida D. Drammeh, Acting Director of Civil Litigation J.O. Okete, Principal State Counsel A.A. Wakawz, and Senior State Counsels S.L. Jobarteh and M. Ngum. The addition of Senior Lawyer Ida Drammeh to the State’s legal team marked a notable expansion in its representation.

During proceedings, the Chief Justice instructed that parties consult to identify agreed-upon issues and facts, and that all parties submit a summary of evidence or affidavit statements ahead of the next sitting. A deadline of 26th November 2025 was set for this filing.

In a significant development, the Supreme Court, acting suo motu, ordered that Cherno Amadou Sowe, the current Auditor General, be joined to the case as the Third Defendant and Interested Party. The Chief Justice further directed that all court processes be formally served on Amadou Sowe, who is entitled to respond to the suit.

All parties are now required to notify the Supreme Court of the agreed issues and facts by the next scheduled hearing on 3rd December 2025.
