Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, on Friday, strongly condemned the detention and prosecution of 75 minors, aged 12-15, for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The minors were arraigned on Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with some fainting before Justice Obiora Egwuatu.
Atiku, in an X post, described the scene as “reminiscent of a Nazi concentration camp,” highlighting the government’s disregard for vulnerable citizens, especially children. He emphasized that Section 11 of the Child’s Rights Act guarantees dignity and protection from physical, mental, or emotional harm.
“The horrible scene once again reflects the low premium the current government places on the lives of the vulnerable, especially children,” Atiku stated. “Children who are the most affected by these policies have every right to protest peacefully, as guaranteed by the Constitution and the Child Rights Act.”

Peter Obi also expressed concern, noting that the minors were poorly handled while in government custody. “The offense being alleged against these suspects, including minors, is protesting against bad governance that was directly affecting their livelihood,” Obi wrote on X.
Obi pointed out the irony of government officials, who once championed good governance while in opposition, now demonizing protesters. “Suspects deserve some dignity, even in a correctional home as human beings,” he added.
Atiku and Obi urge the government to investigate the “inhuman treatment of minors.”
The ex-Anambra governor commended Justice Egwuatu for halting the trial and saving Nigeria from further embarrassment.
67 of the 76 minors were granted bail, with a N10 million bond each.
