Nigerian singer Oluwajuwonlo Iledare popularly known as Jaywon has opened up on his longstanding rift with Afropop singer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe aka Ayra Starr.
Recall that Jaywon had earlier apologised to Ayra Starr for mocking her over the 2024 Grammy award snub moments after a host of Nigerians like Yemi Alade, Davido, and Asake received nominations for the 67th Academy Awards, which were announced by the event’s organizers in the United States on Friday.
While revisiting the genesis of their feud, Jaywon in an interview with News Central, said that trouble started when a picture of him and the ‘Rush’ crooner appeared online.
According to Jaywon, he took the photo to celebrate and encourage Ayra Starr’s achievement since he believes she is an amazing artist who makes Nigerians proud.
Jaywon, however, anticipated Ayra Starr and her management to correct the trolls and dispel any misunderstandings once the photo was misconstrued and they started making fun of him but he was surprised that nothing was done by her team to douse the misconception.

Jaywon said: “The Ayra Starr situation is unfortunate. We are not cool. People don’t get it. What would make me want to take a picture with Ayra Starr?
“Of course, she’s an amazing artist who has been making us [Nigerians] proud. So, it’s just love. I only wanted to support and celebrate her for the good work she’s doing.
“People also support and celebrate me, too. So when I see a young artist doing good, I want to be part of that celebration.
“We took a picture and it went viral, you and you never said anything about it. The only thing your management did was to promote the picture back to back. Nobody is dumb.
“We know how the [music] industry works. People are saying she didn’t say anything about the picture. Of course, she didn’t say anything about the picture but she saw it trending everyday. Why would she not say something about it?
“Oh yeah, because that is how they roll. I don’t blame them. They feel like if they say something, they are going to stop the picture from trending. They enjoy it. No problem. Everybody has their time,” he said.
