The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Gobir has warned of the emergence of another deadly and dangerous terrorist group identified as the ‘Lakurawas’.
Gobir who disclosed this on Monday while receiving participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who were on a study tour in the state, said the group which claims to be a faith-based idealist sect, has been engaging in criminal and extremist activities with sophisticated weapons in about five local government areas of the state.
While addressing the course participants, the Deputy Governor said the state government was worried as the emergence of the group was coming at a time the state was faced with banditry activities.
“The state government has been working closely with Federal Security Agencies to address numerous security threats to lives and properties of the people of the state,” Gobir said.
He added that the threat was expanding, but was confident that the security authorities were working assiduously to address the emerging threat of the new group.
