The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has suspended the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, for alleged anti-party activities.
Also suspended were the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 election in Bayelsa State, David Lyon, former Commissioner for Power in the state, Kharim Kumoko, his Lands and Survey counterpart, Peres Biewari, the party’s former chairman in the state, Jothan Amos, Godbless Diriwari, and APC Youth Leader in Southern Ijaw, Sabi Morgan.
The APC chairman in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state, Mitin Eniekenemi Senator, disclosed this to journalists on Friday in Yenagoa.
He said the suspension of the members followed the review of a report presented by the party’s disciplinary committee.
He alleged that Lokpobiri worked for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election in Bayelsa State.
Senator said: “In the 2023 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, he led a group of disgruntled party members to openly support and work for Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party and was compensated by the PDP-led government of Bayelsa State.
“His aide, Kharim Kumoko, was nominated by the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, and appointed as the current Commissioner for Power in Bayelsa State.
“It is on record that since the day he was appointed as minister, he has been fighting the party in Bayelsa State and has refused to make peace despite all entreaties.”
