Yusupha Keita, the Country representative of International Trade Centre (ITC), has emphasized that his centre is working to connect hospitality buyers with reliable local producers and agro processors.

Mr. Keita was speaking at the Business-to-Business (B2B) Matchmaking Event jointly organised by the Gambia Hotel Association (GHA) and the International Trade Centre (ITC). The theme of the event revolved around “Strengthening Local Sourcing for the Tourism Sector,” and it was organized under the EU-funded Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), in collaboration with the ROOTs Project and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

According to Keita, the initiative marked a powerful moment in the journey to transform tourism and agriculture in The Gambia.

“We believe that trade is not just about transactions but transformation. Globally, ITC works to unlock markets for small producers, women entrepreneurs, and youth, helping them rise from the margins to the mainstream of economic opportunity,” he stated.

“This B2B matchmaking event is more than a networking opportunity. It is the culmination of months of groundwork,” Keita added.

The chairperson of the Gambia Hotel Association, Marion Nyang, hailed the initiative, describing it as a meeting of industries for building strong and sustainable partnerships that support local production, improve supply chains, and enhance the quality of services offered across the hospitality sector.

She acknowledged that the event brought together hoteliers, vegetable suppliers, and agro-processors.

Other speakers at the event included Mr Mamour Alieu Jagne, the Project Director of Roots Project.
