Minister Threatens To Sue ‘Alkalolu’ Denying Citizens Voter Registration Card

By Kemo Kanyi

Hamat N.K. Bah, the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs, has threatened to take legal action against any Alkalo (Village head) who denies citizens to register in their village during the voter registration process.

In a joint meeting of Niamina Dankunku, Niamina West, and East, held in Mamud Fana, Minister Bah alleged that one of the Alkalolu in Niamina denied President Adama Barrow’s supporters from taking the voter registration cards in his village during the past electoral process, warning that such actions would not be tolerated again, and if any Alkalo attempts it, the law will take its stance against him.

“There is a village in Niamina here that I will not name. The Alkalo of that particular village denied Barrow’s supporters from getting voter register cards in his village until they had to be forced out to get registered in the neighbouring villages. This happened in Niamina here. If any Alkalo does such a thing this time, the law will take its cause on you,” he affirmed.

He emphasized that every citizen is constitutionally guaranteed a right to vote, stating that no one must be allowed to suppress this legal right.

The leader of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP), Bah, urged the people of Niamina to prepare and get registered, and rally behind President Barrow, stating that their candidate is working relentlessly to achieve victory as he shows no turning back. He added that President Barrow prioritised transparency and development in his governance.
