Modou Njie, the Secretary General of the Gambia Farmers’ Union who is currently part of the ongoing “Meet the People’s Tour” caravan, has expressed strong satisfaction with the way farmers’ concerns are being handled during the nationwide initiative.
In a WhatsApp audio message shared with this outlet, Mr Njie praised the tour protocol for creating an open and respectful atmosphere where farmers can freely share their views, saying he is pleased that they now have the opportunity to express their opinions without fear.
He stressed that farmer participation in these national discussions is essential for achieving the country’s long-term agricultural goals, noting that their involvement is vital for attaining food self sufficiency.
Mr Njie also commended the government for its continued support to the agricultural sector, particularly through the provision of quality farming inputs, adding that farmers are grateful for the supply of high quality fertilizer which is readily accessible.
His comments come as the tour continues to engage communities across the country, with agriculture remaining one of the main issues raised by the public.
