The community of Daru Mbayen in the Upper Saloum District has requested essential facilities and services required for a healthy and comfortable standard of living from the government.
In a general meeting held at Daru Mbayen on Wednesday as part of the President’s Meet the People Tour, Mr. Siman Mbaye, the Alkalo of the village, highlighted some difficulties his community was facing and requested the authorities’ intervention.
“Several communities around our area need electricity, healthcare facilities, as our women are forced to trek more than 6 km to seek medical attention. We are seeking your support for storage facilities and milling machines for our women,” Alkalo Mbaye outlined.
Abdou Kadir Jallow, a youth leader at Njoben in Nianija, also forwarded the problems faced by nine communities around his village, stating that most of these are perennial challenges.
He pointed out that in their district, there are no tractors available for the farmers, revealing that they secure tractors from other districts by renting. He also pointed out the challenge of the availability of water supply for their ruminants as one of the undesirable burdens facing the Nianija communities.
President Adama Barrow informed the gathering that he brought a brand-new ambulance to ease the transportation of patients seeking medical attention, stating that the ambulance will be stationed at the Jamagen Health Centre. He also promised electricity expansion in Upper Saloum, Nianija, and Sami.
Reacting to the demands made at Daru Mbayen, Hon. Hamat N.K. Bah promised to address the issues of the milling machine for women.
He urged them to register all their eligible voters and rally support behind President Adama Barrow, urging them to prioritise voter registration over all issues at hand.
