GRA Holds ITAS Sensitization Workshop for West Coast Taxpayers

By: Fatou Krubally

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday continued its nationwide push to familiarize taxpayers with the new Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), holding another sensitization workshop at the Woodpecker Hotel in Banjulunding for participants from the West Coast region.

The one-day event, which followed a similar workshop held earlier at the African Princess Hotel for the Greater Banjul Area, brought together taxpayers from different institutions.

In his remarks, ITAS Project Manager Samba Sallah welcomed participants and encouraged them to take full advantage of the session to understand the features and benefits of the new platform. “This workshop is an opportunity for taxpayers to learn how ITAS can make tax compliance easier, faster, and more transparent,” Sallah said.

Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow, delivering welcoming remarks, described ITAS as a milestone in creating a taxpayer-centered system that emphasizes efficiency, fairness, and transparency. He noted that the platform would reduce compliance costs and time spent on tax processes while fostering voluntary compliance.

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe officially opened the workshop, highlighting the authority’s ongoing digital transformation and the replacement of the outdated GAM TaxNet system. Darboe emphasized that ITAS will allow taxpayers to register, file returns, and make payments remotely without visiting GRA offices.

“This system is not just about technology; it is about transforming how we interact with taxpayers, improving accountability, and ensuring data accuracy while reducing human interference in the process,” Darboe said.

The ITAS initiative, supported by the World Bank through the Ministry of Finance, is part of a broader effort to modernize public financial management and enhance service delivery for taxpayers across the country.

As the workshop concluded, participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to interact directly with GRA officials and gain firsthand knowledge of the new system. Similar workshops are expected to continue across other regions to ensure that all taxpayers are equipped to navigate the new digital platform effectively.
