The inquest into the death of Omar Badjie Thursday resumed before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy ESQ of Brikama Magistrates’ Court with a nurse attendant, Sunkaru Demba testifying.

It could be recalled that Omar Badjie died following an encounter with police on 26th September 2025 at Mandinaring Village.

Sunkaru Demba introduced herself as a nurse from Lamin and currently posted at Mandinaring Health Centre. She explained her functions as a nurse which included helping trained nurses receive patients, checking patient’s temperature and blood pressure.

She further explained that on 26th September 2025, she was at Mandinaring Health Centre and she was on duty when she received a patient around 10 am who was brought in unconscious. She said she was there with a trained nurse, Fatou Sanyang.

Then, Magistrate Anna asked the witness as to who escorted the patient. She replied that four police officers brought him to the hospital and she didn’t know their names.

“At the time you received the patient, what did you do,” the magistrate asked the witness.

The witness answered saying: “I helped them to place the patient in bed and I rushed to call my boss, Muhammed Jaiteh who was our officer in charge. When my boss came, he asked who escorted the patient and the police said they were the ones.” The witness further added that her boss asked as to what happened to the patient. She said the police replied that they were patrolling and met the patient with cannabis when they chased him, he fell down and that was when they brought him to the hospital.

The witness further said to the court that her boss, Mr Jaiteh, advised her to put the patient on oxygen and after putting the oxygen on the patient, she went out of the room.

“I escorted the patient to Kanifing General Hospital and two members of his family, and one police officer,” Demba further told the court.

At that point, the case was adjourned to 10th November 2025, at 1:30 pm for the continuation of the fifth witness.
