Police Investigators Undergo Capacity Building Program

By: Isatou Sarr

Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray on Tuesday November 4, 2025, presided over the opening of the second batch of “Refresher Training for Police Investigators,” organised by the Crime Management Department at the Police Headquarters in Banjul.

The two-day training brings together investigators and senior officers from various regions to strengthen their competence in modern investigative techniques, evidence management, and ethical standards in policing. It also serves as a platform for sharing experiences and enhancing collaboration among regional and specialized units in the pursuit of justice.

In his opening remarks, IGP Touray emphasized that continuous training remains a key pillar of effective policing. He noted that professional investigators form the backbone of a credible criminal justice system, urging participants to maintain high standards of discipline, fairness, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

“Our goal is to build investigators who are not only technically skilled but also morally grounded,” IGP Touray stated. “The public’s confidence in policing depends on how diligently and fairly we handle every investigation.”

The Police Chief commended the Crime Management Department for its proactive efforts in developing specialized training modules that respond to emerging trends in crime investigation. He stressed that capacity development remains central to the GPF’s transformation agenda, as outlined in The Gambia Police Force Strategic Plan 2024–2028.

The initiative forms part of the wider institutional reform and capacity-building programme under IGP Touray’s leadership, aimed at strengthening professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.
