Almameh S. Manga, Assistant Commissioner of Police and one of The Gambia’s most accomplished legal minds in law enforcement, has been nominated to serve on the country’s newly reconstituted Anti-Corruption Commission. His appointment signals a strategic move to strengthen the Commission’s legal and institutional capacity with a figure whose career has been defined by integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

Born on 25 May 1986 in Kanfenda Village, Foni Kansala District, Manga began his career in public service in 2008 when he joined the Gambia Police Force. Over the past 17 years, he has steadily risen through the ranks, earning a reputation as a trusted legal adviser and seasoned police prosecutor. His portfolio includes the investigation and prosecution of serious criminal offences, as well as providing legal counsel to the Inspector General of Police on complex legal and institutional matters.

Manga’s academic credentials are equally distinguished. A Chevening Scholar, he holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Criminal Justice from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He also earned an LLB (Hons) from the University of The Gambia and was called to the Bar in 2019. His academic journey reflects a deep-rooted dedication to the rule of law and justice reform, both domestically and internationally.

His contributions extend far beyond The Gambia’s borders. In 2021, Manga served in Sudan as a Criminal Proceedings Adviser under the United Nations Integrated Assistance Mission (UNITAMS), where he supported legal reforms and procedural improvements within the Sudanese Police Force. He later joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq as a Senior Corruption Investigations and Mentoring Specialist, offering technical guidance to anti-corruption institutions at both federal and regional levels.

At home, Manga remains a key figure in national reform efforts. He has played a pivotal role in drafting major legislative frameworks, including the Gambia Police Force Bill 2024 and the National Roads Transport Bill 2025. His influence also extends into academia, where he serves as an adjunct law lecturer at the University of The Gambia and as a trainer at both the Police Academy and the Management Development Institute.

Manga’s professional development is marked by a wide array of international training and certifications, covering areas such as cybercrime, intellectual property investigations, ethics, integrity, and peacekeeping. His pursuit of excellence and adaptability in a rapidly evolving justice landscape has earned him numerous accolades, including the United Nations Medal for Service in Sudan and multiple commendations for his contributions to global peace and governance.

As he prepares to take up his new role on the Anti-Corruption Commission, expectations are high. With a career that bridges national service and international expertise, Manga is poised to bring a principled, legal, and ethical lens to one of The Gambia’s most critical institutions in the fight against corruption.
