Journalist Waan Launches ‘Change Front’ Political Movement Ahead of 2026 Elections

By Binta Jaiteh

As The Gambia moves toward the 2026 Presidential Elections, journalist Sulayman Waan has unveiled a new political movement, marking his formal entry into the country’s political arena.

The movement, named Change Front (CF), has pledged to tackle corruption and prioritize better healthcare, quality education, food security, youth employment, women’s empowerment, investment, industrialization, and overall economic revival.

Addressing journalists at a press conference on Thursday, Sulayman Waan, the flag bearer for the movement, highlighted the pressing challenges facing Gambians, urging for immediate action and renewal of leadership ahead of the elections.

“Gambians do not deserve to continue suffering after calling for a change of government,” he said. “We are a nation blessed with brilliant people, rich culture, fertile land, and unmatched resilience, yet we continue to live under the weight of high living costs, a fragile economy, failing healthcare, struggling education, and widespread unemployment. Our women remain underrepresented, our youth underutilized, and our national resources mismanaged.”

Mr. Waan, who has worked in the media for over 10 years, said his experience as a journalist has given him firsthand insight into the daily struggles of ordinary Gambians.

“We now stand at a crossroads in our history,” he stated. “We either continue along the path of despair, or we rise together to chart a bold new course – one that will transform this small nation into a modern and prosperous state. I have reported on the hunger in our communities, the broken systems that fail our citizens, and the dreams that too often go unrealized.”

He outlined the Change Front’s key priorities, including modernization of the agricultural sector to ensure food security and prosperity for farmers, establishment of a healthcare system that saves lives and restores dignity, and an education system that equips youth with market-relevant skills.

Sulayman Waan, an independent aspirant presidential candidate 2026 also pledged to reform national security, implement cost-saving economic measures, and introduce what he called “two robust economic transformation models” designed to lift citizens out of poverty.

He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, describing the fight against corruption as “the foundation of national progress.”

“Our vision for The Gambia is one of unity, strength, and determination,” he declared. “It requires all Gambians, men and women, young and old, from every faith, region, and community, to come together and reclaim the greatness of our nation.”

“I will lead with transparency, accountability, and good governance,” Sulayman Waan vowed. “With these values, we will not only achieve the Sustainable Development Goals but also build a Gambia that stands as a model of progress and justice in Africa.”
