Bensouda Accused of Sabotaging UDP from Within

By: Kemo Kanyi

Karamo Njie, a senior official of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has called on the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, to declare his political affiliation ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

Mr. Njie who is UDP’s Public Relations Officer for the North Bank Region, accuses Bensouda of sabotaging UDP from within.

Speaking to The Voice on Wednesday, Njie urges Mayor Bensouda to clearly announce whether he intends to remain in the UDP or pursue his own political ambitions, emphasizing the need for a cohesive strategy within the party.

Njie accused Bensouda of hiding his identity behind the UDP while allegedly working against the party’s interests behind the scenes.

“Talib is not supporting our agenda. He is now running his own political movement with so-called strategists like MC Cham, who does not understand the country’s political landscape. I urge him to boldly come out and announce his intention if he wants to finally resign from the party,” Njie said.

He dismissed recent statements by MC Cham urging Gambian youth to rally behind Bensouda, describing such claims as misleading and out of touch with political realities.

According to Njie, this rhetoric threatens party unity and could expose Mayor Bensouda to “a political nightmare” and one of the most regrettable shifts in a political career if he continues to distance himself from the UDP.

Njie concluded by appealing to Gambian youth to support the UDP and its leader, Ousainou Darboe, stressing that the party understands the struggles of Gambians and is committed to easing their burden.
