Wellingara United bounced back in the Brikama Sports Committee summer Nawettan to claim maximum points against Senior Players on Tuesday, following their opening match defeat to Kutajumbul.
The deadlock was opened in the 27th minute when Musa Bojang inadvertently put the ball into his own net, giving Wellingara United the lead. Just a minute later, Saikou Jawneh restored parity for Senior Players, leveling the score at 1-1.
The match saw a turning point in the 78th minute when Wellingara United’s Michell Mendy was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Despite being a man down, Wellingara United found a hero in substitute Juma Bah, who struck a sensational goal to secure a 2-1 victory for his side.
The result marks consecutive defeats for Senior Players while giving Wellingara United their first win of the tournament.
In another Tuesday fixture at the Brikama Boxba mini stadium, G-Sarr and Black Stars played out a thrilling 1-1 draw. Black Stars took an early lead when Buba Ceesay capitalized on a goalkeeping error to slot the ball home. G-Sarr equalized in the 72nd minute through Yankuba Jabang’s composed finish.
Both sides battled for a winner in the final minutes, but regulation time ended without a decisive goal. G-Sarr had suffered a 3-0 defeat to Fortune FA in their opening match, making this draw a valuable point in their group campaign.
