Mr. Ousainou Darboe, Secretary-General of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has been honoured with the 2025 Prestigious Global Legacy and Peace Award.
Mr. Darboe, who was the former Vice President and Foreign Affairs Minister of The Gambia, was honoured in Finland.
The award was presented during the 3rd edition of the Prestigious Global Award and Nordic Africa Business Summit, held on Sunday, 21st September 2025, in Helsinki, Finland. The event, hosted by Ceci-Educare Oy, brought together leaders and changemakers from Africa, the Nordic countries, Europe, and the United States.
Under the theme, “Changing the Narratives and Celebrating Change Makers,” the ceremony recognized individuals whose work has had a significant global impact.
At the event, Darboe was also named the first recipient of the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo Legacy Award, which was conferred on him by Oba Saka Adelola Ayeokanmi, a Nigerian traditional king, on behalf of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The award celebrated Darboe’s contributions to peace, democracy, and leadership, highlighting his decades-long commitment to public service in The Gambia and beyond. Organizers described the event as a landmark occasion aimed at recognizing achievers while inspiring generations worldwide.
