AY defends 2Baba’s vulnerability in public apology over his polygamy remarks

In light of music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia’s recent public apologies for his divisive remarks regarding polygamy, Nigerian stand-up comedian and filmmaker AY Makun has reacted to the ongoing controversy surrounding the musician.

Amid the issues surrounding his partner Natasha Osawaru and following 2Baba’s controversial statement that males are not naturally monogamous, AY justified 2Baba’s vulnerability by claiming that the apology tendered by the musician was an act of accountability from a guy under obvious emotional strain.

Following the viral release of the controversial interview in which he asserted that males are not “built to be s3xually with just one woman,” 2Baba quickly faced criticism.

A public apology followed this speech, mainly for his new partner, Natasha Osawaru, with whom he recently announced a connection after implying a breakup with his ex-wife, Annie Idibia.

In a post on social media, AY Makun voiced his worries about 2Baba, pointing out the pressures society places on men. He also described 2Baba’s apologies as a rare display of responsibility from a man who was obviously experiencing emotional distress.

‘‘It’s always easy to cast the first stone at the supposed offender. No one pauses to ask him the most human question, “Are you okay?” And when they do, it’s rarely without an agenda. No one really cares.

‘‘I just saw a man under duress taking accountability for his actions. Not because he’s perfect, but because he’s human. As men, we’re raised to suffer in silence. Whether we’re right or wrong, we’re told to “man up.”

‘‘Even when we finally speak, it rarely ends well. We’re blamed. Misunderstood. Dismissed. Our vulnerability doesn’t protect us. it exposes us. Na who them catch? Na, him be thief.’’ AY wrote on his official X page (formerly Twitter).
