Presidency denies report it appointed Hadiza Bala Usman to replace Akume as SGF

The Presidency has denied reports that President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), replacing Senator George Akume.

The fake report which quoted Presidency sources, had gained traction on Saturday evening with several media platforms reporting that Akume had been appointed Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), to replace Abdullah Umar Ganduje who had tendered his resignation, prompting his replacement with Usman by the president.

But in a swift reaction, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, refuted the trending report, describing it as fake and advised the public to disregard it.

In the press statement titled “Akume remains SGF,“ Onanuga said there had been no change in the position of the SGF as the status quo remains.

“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement said.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it. The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.”
