The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, as its Acting National Chairman following the abrupt resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State and until now the APC National Chairman, tendered his resignation on Thursday, citing the need to address “urgent and important personal matters.”
According to a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Ganduje conveyed his decision in a formal letter addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) via the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
In the letter, Ganduje expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the leadership of the party.
“His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters,” Morka confirmed.

Following the development, President Tinubu reportedly directed Dalori to step in as Acting National Chairman, pending a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which will officially ratify a permanent replacement.
Ganduje’s tenure as APC Chairman began in August 2023, succeeding Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central zone. However, his appointment drew internal criticism for allegedly contravening the APC’s zoning arrangement, as both he and his predecessor hailed from the northern part of the country.
Despite the political headwinds, Ganduje remained a key ally of the president. In January 2025, he was appointed as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and there are indications he may soon be nominated as a non-career ambassador.
Dalori, who now holds the reins in an acting capacity, is expected to steer the party through a critical period as it grapples with internal realignments and prepares for key decisions at its next NEC meeting.
