The race for political offices across the country in 2027 has created curious scenarios as the electoral umpire revealed that 110 groups have applied to register as political parties.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday said it had received letters of intent from 110 associations that want to register as political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who made this known while speaking with journalists said the letters of intent were received as at June 23, 2025.
A view of the list revealed a group that applied to register three political parties while two other groups applied to register two different parties with the same acronym, ADA.
The first group is applying to register the New Green Generation Coalition Party (NGGCP) the New Green Congress (NGC) and the New Green Coalition Party (NGCP).

All three proposed parties have the same address, and have Mal. Idris A. Abdulkarim listed as Chairman, while Amb. Crystal Ikechukwu Ogu is listed as secretary for all three applications.
In another curious twist two associations seeking registration as political parties submitted identical acronyms to INEC.
The first is the All Democratic Alliance, (ADA) being promoted by Chief Akin Ricketts and said to be one of the special purpose vehicles that the anti-Tinubu coalition is seeking to use as a platform in the 2027 general election.
While the Ricketts ADA is 109 on the INEC list, the other Advanced Democratic Alliance (ADA) is 110, the last on the list unveiled by the electoral umpire.
This second ADA has Alhaji Ahmadu Suleiman as Protem Chairman and Zipporah Pius Miracles as Secretary.
The Ricketts ADA has its national headquarters at Ground Floor, UAC Complex, Plot 273 Samuel Adesujo Ademulegun Street, CBD, Abuja, FCT.
Suleiman’s ADA has its national headquarters at 1 Frandriance Close, Off Oda Crescent, Off Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.
