Club W’Cup: Real Madrid held by Hilal after Man City beat Wydad

Real Madrid failed to convert a late penalty as they are held to a 1-1 draw by Al Hilal in their opening game of the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday night.

The Spanish giants dramatically had a stoppage-time penalty saved. Mohammed Al-Qahtani was penalised when his flaying arm caught Real left-back Fran Garcia.

Federico Valverde’s resultant spot-kick, which was awarded after a video assistant referee (VAR) review, was superbly pushed out by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Gonzalo Garcia had opened the scoring after the half hour mark before Rúben Neves equalised from a penalty just before halftime.
