Delivering his New Year’s Message 2025, President Adama Barrow calls on Gambians to avoid divisive Politics as the countdown for the 2026 election looms.
The head of state highlighted that the Gambia ranked third in Africa for defending freedom of expression, according to Article 19’s 2024 report.
Looking ahead, the president outlined plans for 2025, including expanded infrastructure, enhanced education and healthcare systems, and increased youth empowerment.
“The future lies in knowledge and skills,” he said. “Our youth must seize the opportunities available to them and focus on innovation and productivity.”
In his closing remarks, Barrow called for solidarity and cooperation. “Let us resolve to work in solidarity for a better Gambia. By working together, we can achieve much more,” he said.
President Adama Barrow has praised The Gambia’s achievements in 2024, describing the year as a turning point for the nation’s economic growth, international recognition, and social development.
In his New Year’s address, he urged citizens to embrace unity and focus on the collective good as the country enters 2025.
Despite global economic challenges, Barrow highlighted strides in tourism, infrastructure development, and revenue collection as key drivers of progress.
“Our economy is growing steadily, as confirmed by IMF reports,” he said. “Our policies and programs are paying dividends, and there are huge prospects ahead.”
Tourism, a vital sector in The Gambia, has seen a significant recovery, with over 233,000 visitors recorded between October and December 2024.
Projections suggest this number will surpass 260,000 for the current season, cementing the sector’s role in boosting national revenue.
Barrow also celebrated The Gambia’s growing international stature, citing the successful hosting of the OIC Summit in May 2024, where he was elected Chair of the organization.
