The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has received letters of intent from 110 associations that want to register as political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who made this known while speaking with journalists on Wednesday said the letters of intent were received as at June 23, 2025.
“We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our regulations and guidelines,” he said.
“We have acknowledged all requests received so far except six of them received recently which will be done before the end of the week.”
Among those seeking to register new political parties iOS Seun Anikulapo-Kuti, son of late Afribeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who is seeking to register Movement of the People (MOP).
